Business Savings Accounts

Interest rates on business savings accounts

A savings account for a company usually pays a lower interest rate than a private savings account. The reason is that savings depositors prefer to open an account with a bank when the interest is higher than competing offers. But as the rate gets less attractive, companies are quick to take their surplus cash elsewhere.

Many private depositors have other things to worry about and do not always have the time and appetite to chase the highest interest rate. Once the account is opened the mayority is loyal to the bank even if competitors offer better rates.

Highest interest rates for business savings account

Below you'll find a list of the highest rates on business savings accounts, including some private accounts which are open to stamrecht BV's, pension BV's and VBI's ("vrijgestelde beleggingsinstellingen", exempt investment institutions). These companies are mostly managed by private individuals and not by businesses.

The savings accounts with a red link can be opened directly via Second Start.

Additional information business savings accounts

Guarantees

All above savings accounts are guaranteed under the Dutch Banking Deposit Guarantee Scheme. This scheme guarantees deposits up till €100,000. In addition, deposits with Westland Utrecht, a 100% affiliate of ING Bank, are guaranteed by ING. ASN Bank, SNS Bank, RegioBank and Reaal are all part of SNS Reaal.

In addition to private individuals the Deposit Guarantee Scheme applies to companies and organisations which are allowed to publish abbreviated accounts with the commercial register of the Chamber of Commerce. This is the case if during at least two subsequent years the below conditions were met:

  • less than 4.4 million euro in assets
  • less than 8.8 million euro turnover per annum
  • less than 50 employees
For stamrecht BV's, VBI's and pension BV's this almost always the case.

Account opening requests

While a private savings account usually can be opened online these days, for a business account that is not always the case. Sometimes you need to fill out a paper form directly and sometimes this will be sent after providing the bank with some details online. Be prepared to provide at least the below documents:

  • Personal identification of directors or authorised representatives
  • Recent extract from the commercial register of the Chamber of Commerce
In addition, in many cases your company needs to be a Dutch legal entity. In practice however a foreign legal entity (e.g. a Limited Company) domiciled in The Netherlands will not be a problem. It is best to inquire in advance.

Commission

Second Start receives commissions or referral fees from some banks. These fees do not infuence in any way the business savings accounts and interest rates included in the above list and they do not influence your return: the interest rate on savings accounts is the same for every client.
